National Caregivers Month Day #2
Family caregivers are unique individuals. More often than not, it’s a duty that wasn’t given but rather thrown onto our shoulders. Yet, for love and humaneness (which aren’t heralded traits these days) we accept and do the best we can. Kind of like the tacca chantrieri aka bat flower.
It reminded me of the sacrifice of love that comes with being a family caregiver. Those on the outside can only think to know. To them, it’s a little cooking, a bit of cleaning and a trip or two to the doctor. Easy peasy, right?
To us, it’s putting our own very real needs on the back burner to simmer, where they remain untouched. Abandoned, the fire goes out, extinguished by…a little cooking, a bit of cleaning and a trip or two to the doctor.
Our lives are as complex and simple as the bat flower. Unique, simple…and beautiful.
